Five years of climbing, community and making a difference in Oldham. From the very first walls going up to thousands of people walking through our doors, Summit Up has come a long way. This September marks five years of Summit Up Climbing, and we’re celebrating everything that has made the centre what it is today — our members, visitors, staff, supporters and the incredible climbing community that has grown around us.
It’s hard to believe it’s been five years.
Five years on, we’ve welcomed more than 120,000 visitors per year, built a thriving climbing community and created a space where people of all ages and abilities can climb, learn, challenge themselves and have fun.
The centre was funded by Sir Norman Stoller CBE, KStJ, DL, through the Stoller Charitable Trust, with the aim of creating opportunities for young people and communities across Oldham.
As a charitable trust, the profits from Summit Up are reinvested back into the local community, helping support young people and create opportunities across Oldham.

Summit Up, opened in September 2021, has being created with community in mind. We want to create a space where everyone can feel safe to push their limits, try something new, bring the family and most importantly, have fun.
Whilst we are a “for-profit” business, Summit Up is the trading subsidiary of The Stoller Charitable Trust, whose purpose has been to provide opportunities to raise aspirations, support Oldham’s young people to reach the height of their ability and to provide a helping hand when it is most needed.
All of Summit Up’s profits will go directly to supporting charity. Our motivation in creating Summit Up Climbing Centre was to leave a lasting legacy for the next generation of the Oldham community. We strive for excellence and will feel proud if we succeed in creating an accessible and inclusive experience for all the family, from complete novices through seasoned climbers and even those just looking to try something new.
We want to create a space that inspires and motivates all ages to be active and ambitious. It is our hope that Summit Up will connect the community and create a lasting social venue in Oldham, “the Centre of the Universe” , the town that enabled our former Seton (later SSL International) family of employees to develop and prosper.
