If you are looking for a new way to get fit, which will leave you strong and toned? Do you want an activity which is fun, challenging and a chance to learn a new skill? You need to look no further than indoor climbing.
Not surprisingly, it takes strength to climb straight up a vertical wall. Climbers will work every muscle group in their body and burn calories at a rate equivalent to high-intensity activities like spinning and resistance workouts.
You do not have to start out with bulging biceps to get going. Each climb you do, will improve your strength and muscle memory. And climbing isn’t just about your arms, shoulders, and back, you also work your core strength to keep yourself parallel to the wall and your legs to push further and faster up the wall.
Climbing will also improve motor skills, balance and coordination. Successfully navigating the various hand- and footholds on the wall requires meticulous eye-hand-foot coordination, balance, and stamina. You have to pay attention to your breathing and your core muscles as well as watching where you came from, where you are, and where you’re going.
Climbing is classed as a low impact exercise. Low-impact exercise can be a great option for anyone from high impact runner who want a change of pace, to people who are beginning to exercise again after an injury.
If you are new to climbing we offer a range of lessons, including taster sessions, roped climbing and bouldering inductions and advanced skills lessons.
At Summit Up, we’re passionate about introducing children to the joys of climbing in a safe, supportive, and engaging environment. Our Mini Summiteers is for children aged 3 to 7 years. This blog gives parents a detailed look at what their little climbers will be doing during sessions, how we support their development, and how you can get involved.
If you're unsure about whether to take your climbing from the indoor wall to real rock, this guide will help you understand what our Real Rock climbing day involves.
