Climbing Stories: Meet Tim

For anyone thinking of starting climbing, Tim's advice is simple, "It's less about your arms than you think. If you can climb a flight of stairs, then you are able to climb a rock climb."

Meet Tim, a passionate climber who first started top roping in 2013. Tim's love for climbing started in the snowy highlands of Scotland when his friend asked him to belay him on a big mountain ridge. Tim couldn't and decided to learn to climb after that trip. Since then, he has learned to lead indoors and trad climb since about 2017.

Tim says, "I think probably I like the community most about climbing. It's got a really warm and supportive, friendly community." He further adds, "My probably greatest highlights might be climbing with my mum and my nephew. So three generations of our family climbed up First Pinnacle Rib Route on Tryfan."

As a member of The Climbing Clan, Tim has found a welcoming group of supportive people who like to climb together. "I think that it always feels like home. You always feel like you are amongst people who are friendly and like-minded and who are willing to support you, whatever you want to do".

For anyone thinking of starting climbing, Tim's advice is simple, "It's less about your arms than you think. If you can climb a flight of stairs, then you are able to climb a rock climb."

Tim climbs with the Climbing Clan at Summit Up on Wednesdays. You can experience a warm and supportive community just like Tim did. Connect with like-minded climbers and grow together as a team. With skill teaching, trips away, and a friendly community, The Climbing Clan at Summit Up is the perfect group to start your climbing journey with.
