Climbing Stories: Meet Robert

Hello fellow climbers!

My name is Robert, 32 years old, and a novice climber but I go by TheClimbersJourney on instagram which I started in June of 2022.

Following the years of covid I dropped the gym and started hiking, this led me to discovering scrambling which was the gateway into climbing for myself. I found myself on YouTube night after night learning about outdoor routes and boulders, safe to say I just HAD to try it.

I arrived day one of what’s been a life changing journey for me, at Summit Up climbing centre my local indoor climbing gym.

I WAS HOOKED!

Beautiful open space with friendly welcoming faces and attitudes to match “hi, have you been before?”. The introduction to climbing had started and little did I know I was going to fall in love with it.

The community here is second to none, I’ve had so many amazing memories over the past year. The staff have become like family tbh, supporting me through the struggles and now into my first set of bouldering & speed climbing competitions.

As a firefighter I am always looking for a way to stay fit and be challenged. Summit Up has been a safe space that can challenge me both physically & mentally but also bring me peace when you just need a break.

My 11 year old son has also joined me on this journey which presented me with an opportunity to have dedicated bonding time, slapping plastic, cutting loose, dyno’s and power screams are to name a few of the moments we have together.
